Do America’s Schools Need to Change?  It Depends on What You Compare Them To.  Wendy Kopp compares perspectives from Diane Ravitch’s book Reign of Error and Amanda’s Ripley’s The Smartest Kids in the World and How They Got That Way.  Kopp argues that traditional schools are obsolete. Higher standards and better teachers are needed to be competitive in the global economy. Ravitch states there is no crisis in education, but there is a real threat that privatizing our schools will divert needed resources to a voracious corporate sector.
